John Illman is a medical jounalist who is unmatched in his experience. Listen to his inside stories. John is a local man who has lived a facinating life, including the unlikely combination of having been The Guardian's health editor for 8 years and the Daily Mail's medical correspondant for 5 years. He co-authored a book about the body with Christian Bernard, launched the journal New Psychiatry and taught at Westminster and Cambridge Universities. Today, he writes for The British Medical Journal and is also writing a novel. Join us at Muswell Hill Library as John describes medical journalism from the inside.
At a Death Cafe, people, often strangers, gather to eat cake , drinlk tea and discuss death... to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their lives.
Death Cafe is a group discussion of death with no agenda, objectives or themes. It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counselling session.

July is Disability Pride Month. This celebrates diversity, encourages positive conversations around disability, and raises awareness of different kinds of disabilities. Historically, disabled people have faced discrimination and have had to fight for equal rights. Disabilty Pride Month allows us to focus on celebrating the achievements of people from the disabled community, and raises awareness of the inequaliities that still exist and the progress that still needs to be made. Celebrate Disability Pride Month with us at Muswell Hill Library. Make your own colourful umbrella that helps you to learn some of the different types of disabilities that exist. Have fun with it!
